What is Nouthetic Counseling?
What is The Goal of Nouthetic Counseling? What about my privacy? How will the counselor help me? What are some needs addressed by this type of counseling? How long will it take before I can see change? What is Nouthetic Counseling? Nouthetic Counseling is Biblical or Pastoral counseling : a Healing ministry which uses the Holy Scriptures to allow the counselee to confront the sin issues in his/her life. Nouthetic Counseling is very different from secular counseling : the unchanging Authority in Nouthetic Counseling is The Word of G-d. You can fully expect your counselor to pray with and for you , to employ such interventions as prayer, praise and worship, music ( Spiritual), Meditation and Bible Reading. Your counselor will also assign Scripturally -based homework with practical applications that you can use right away to help you realize change in your life. Back to Top What is The Goal of Nouthetic Counseling? The goals of Nouthetic Counseling are to give hope to the counselee, bringing about permanent change in the counselee's life , and ultimately restoring the relationship with G-d that has been broken by sinful behaviors. We do NOT give advice: - our goals in counseling at Restored by The Spirit Ministries are permanent change and restoration: not relief -( feeling better, venting, commiserating, etc.) Back to Top What about my privacy? Confidentiality is a tenet of this Ministry. All information discussed in your counseling session is kept in strictest confidence. If ever we need to consult with another counselor or an expert who can help us with your needs , all information is "flattened out"- name , address , and all identifying aspects ae removed . Any information from outside sources can only be gathered with your written permission. However, it is important that you understand if you pose a threat to your self or another person , we are bound by law to report these concerns to the appropiate agencies. You must also understand that Group Counseling formats may not provide high confidenciality. We can only guarantee high confidentiality in one -on -one sessions. Back to Top How will the counselor help me? You and your counselor will have an initial meeting : either face to face , or electronically- by telephone, web chat, teleconference, or e-mail. At that time you will present your needs to the counselor and you and your counselor will create a Healing Process so that your goals in counseling can be attained.After deciding the best payment options and format, you will expected to be open and honest. You are expected to complete all assignments. If the counselor perceives at any time you are not receiving the counsel or are not cooperating with the Healing Process, counseling may be discontinued until all assignments are caught up or the decision to terminate the counseling is made by the counselor, the counselee, or both.
